One of the most asked questions I get is, "What made you decide to go into broadcasting?" The answer comes from a line of family history. Growing up, my grandfather was a reporter for The Providence Journal in Rhode Island. Several of my cousins were involved in both radio and TV broadcasting. To put it simply, I was inspired by those around me, and I too had a knack for getting to know people. I knew I wanted to tell there stories.
I grew up in Seekonk, Massachusetts and attended St. Mary's Academy Bay View from kindergarten, all the way through to my senior year of high school. My junior year I won the title of Miss Massachusetts Teen USA. The organization gave me a platform to further expand my public speaking and communication skills. I look back on that time very fondly and am grateful for the confidence it gave me.
Upon graduation in 2013, I completed my first internship at NBC affiliate, WJAR-TV in Providence. When I began my freshman year at Pennsylvania State University I was immediately enrolled in the College of Communications pursuing a degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Immediately beginning the courses for my major gave me time to complete three minors in Spanish, International Studies and Business. I also became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma where I was elected by my chapter on the Executive Board as Event Chairman. I fulfilled that role for a year and a half and was also a member of recruitment.
My first experience getting my feet wet in broadcasting was at the University's PSN-TV, specifically, PSNews, as a reporter. The student-run news network gave me my first real hands-on experience as a broadcast journalist, particularly as a one-man-band. I filmed my own stand-ups, wrote and recorded my tracks, and edited all my own materials on Adobe Premiere that went on-air. From there, I completed an internship at WPRI-TV in Providence, Rhode Island.
My junior year I moved to Alicante, Spain for where I completed a semester studying abroad at the University of Alicante. I completed my Spanish minor through CIEE's international exchange program. While there, I lived with a host family and became conversationally fluent in Spanish.
As a senior I created, produced, and hosted my own show titled "The Scene" for local cable access channel TV9.
I then applied to the Centre County Report, an Emmy-Award winning newscast that airs to 29 counties in Pennsylvania. I was both a news anchor, and multimedia journalist.
Fast forward to today, and I am honored to be doing what I've always dreamed of. I am so thankful to the viewers who have welcomed me into their homes at night.
Some of my favorite memories thus far have been anchoring live from New England's largest fair, the Big E, being nominated with my evening team for an Emmy, and flying to Des Moines, Iowa for the Meredith Corporation to shoot content and specials for Better Homes and Gardens, Walmart, All Recipe, and other well-known brands.
